Junior Cargo Trader

SUMMARY
We are seeking a candidate with previous experience in Physical Trading, ideally within the Residual and Distillate Fuels scope of products.
WHAT YOU’LL DO:
Engage in the procurement of marine fuels, blending components and associated products to
maintain a competitive supply in Peninsula’s regional physical ports, maximizing the value of the
company’s assets and shorts, where quality and risk awareness are paramount, by fostering
profitable and longstanding relationships with a portfolio of counterparties, including major oil
companies, refiners and trading houses globally.
MAIN RESPONSIBILITIES
• Maintain, establish and build relationships with new and existing suppliers;
• Procure Marine Fuels and their blending components to maintain a competitive supply into the
regional physical ports;
• Openly communicate with other cargo traders internally to maximise the flow of market and
arbitrage opportunities globally;
• Understand, analyse and interpret market conditions, fundamentals, geopolitics, market
structure plays and other sources of information in order to have a view that better positions
Peninsula’s supply;
• Coordinate supply and blending with local Operations teams
• Coordinate with Chartering to maximize value of Peninsula’s shipping assets
• Coordinate with Regional Book Manager and Hedging Desk in order to both mitigate pricing risk
and to maximize value of supply within the Risk Management framework;
• Coordinate with line manager and Regional Head to define and implement medium / long term
procurement strategies;
• Participate in both internal and external marketing activities when required;
• Use MINT and local market intelligence to understand competitors and suppliers flows of
supply;
• Proactively control risks ensuring that all counterparties are vetted and approved, cost of
claims are minimized, and counterparty financial strength is regularly and carefully considered
in conjunction with the Supplier Credit Team
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE
Essential
• Business level of English language essential
• Confident individual with excellent verbal and written communication skills.
• Persuasive and influential by nature, a highly effective negotiator able to ‘think on your feet’
• High level of ownership and accountability.
• Knowledge of residual and distillate fuel pools as well as feedstocks, understanding their
uses as well as key parameters, and their testing procedures, involved in blending them.
• Knowledge of ISO 8210 specifications.
• Ability to swiftly express key information to facilitate line manager / Regional Head decision
making
• High level of commercial acumen, able to think analytically and strategically and understand
the wider business context
• Able to work collaboratively as part of a team and towards shared goals but equally able to
work independently with a minimal level of supervision
• Ambitious, self-motivated and demonstrating a willingness to continually develop own
knowledge and skills
• High level of computer literacy including proficiency of MS Office package and able to work
with CRM systems
Desirable
• Knowledge of other languages is desirable
